COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When is whale season on Oahu?

Answer:
Whale season on Oahu runs from December through April, when humpback whales migrate to Hawaiian waters to breed and give birth. During this time, the North Shore of Oahu consistently has the highest whale concentrations on Oahu, providing the best viewing opportunities.

Do you guarantee whales on your tours?

Answer:
Yes! If you join us on a North Shore Whale Watching Tour out of Haleiwa Harbor anytime between the months of January 1st -April 7th, we guarantee whales on your tour. No refund will be given if you do not see whales, but, we will allow you to return for another tour. We cannot guarantee whales on tours booked December and after April 7th, and no refunds/no return free tours will be given if you do not see whales during the months of December or anytime after April 7th.

Are your whale watching tours kid-friendly?

Answer:
Yes! Our whale watching tours are family-friendly and welcome guests of all ages. For families with young children (or older passengers), we recommend booking early morning tours, as ocean conditions are typically calmest and most comfortable at that time of day.

Is whale watching safe for kids?

Answer:
Yes, whale watching is very safe for children. We operate at slow speeds and use a large, stable boat that is covered for protection from sun and rain. US Coast Guard–approved life jackets are available for both children and adults (optional) to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Why choose the North Shore over Waikiki for whale watching?

Answer:
The North Shore of Oahu provides a more natural and less crowded whale watching experience than Waikiki. There are fewer boats, buildings, and no large commercial shipping traffic. The North Shore also features shallow bays that are ideal for mother whales and calves, and NOAA population assessment maps consistently show the highest whale concentrations on Oahu in this area.

can i hear whales singing on tour?

Answer:
Absolutely! During our North Shore humpback whale watching tours, you may have the rare opportunity to listen to live whale songs using our onboard hydrophone. Captain GE, a marine biologist and USCG-licensed captain, provides educational commentary so you’ll understand what you’re hearing, making it a truly immersive and unforgettable experience.

What makes Bob Marlin Whale Watching different?

Tours are led by a marine biologist captain, include hydrophone whale listening, and prioritize educational, eco-friendly practices. Our North Shore location and comfortable vessels provide personalized, unforgettable humpback whale watching experiences.
